AnalysisThe poem “I Traveled Among Unknown Men” is about how the author, William Wordsworth, has traveled to many places throughout the world, but still has a love for his home land England. While being away from his country he notices all the strange people, different locations and scenery and he begins to have dreams with a melancholy tone showing his homesickness. He also professes his love for a woman named Lucy. He speaks about her green eyes and their relevance to England's beautiful scenery. “The bowers where Lucy played; And thine too is the last green field, That Lucy's eyes surveyed.” Nature has brought both components of the authors life together with his love for Lucy and his homeland England.

I Traveled Among Unknown Men- William WordsworthI traveled among unknown men, In lands beyond the sea; Nor, England! did I know till then What love I bore to thee. 'Tis past, that melancholy dream! Nor will I quit thy shore A second time; for still I seem To love thee more and more. Among thy mountains did I feel The joy of my desire; And she I cherished turned her wheel Beside an English fire. Thy mornings showed, thy nights concealed, The bowers where Lucy played; And thine too is the last green field That Lucy's eyes surveyed. |

Consonance- "Nor will I quit thy shore, A second time; for still I seem, To love thee more and more." The consonance occurs in this section of the poem when the "ore" sound is repeated three times. The authors uses this consonance to help readers to understand the emotions behind their words. Also it was used to help the flow of the poem when it is read out loud.
